Any idea what could have caused that outburst?
Looks like something hitting the planet and the planet reacting the same way as a drop of water falling in a lake and the lake responding to the impact of the drop.

The explanation offered does not make much sense to me. How does one describe the beams of light that, even to a novice, have nothing to do with a lens reflection? Obviously, there was substantial explosion/eruption from the planet.

Here is the original quote I found with this YouTube on Exopolitics.com:

“Venus mass ejection and explosion of light. Note that there is a primary and secondary eruption caught by the footage. The initial event causes what resembles a magnetic loop and then a swelling of the gaseous body. The second event gives a more directed focussed outburst followed by a very strange triangle in space incorporating the remains of the earlier events. The Sun is left of the screen and currently undergoing the coronal event involving Sunspot 1092 and a Coronal Mass Ejection. Part of this is captured during the film. The planet has left the field of vision by middle of the film so the secondary event can’t be simple lens flare, the eruption actually re-enters the field of view.”

We deserve the truth. Things are never what they seem.

Hi, Mr. McClellan and Mr. Fenton –
Sorry not to answer your questions earlier, but the stereo.gsfc server was down for more than a day because of a planned power outage in connection with construction in the building where it is housed, and I wanted to be able to direct you to some older images showing identical phenomena. If you look at the second row of images at: http://stereo.gsfc.nasa.gov/artifacts/artifacts_reflections.shtml ,
you will see that what you are viewing is (1) reflection of the bright Venus image off internal camera surfaces and (2) instrumental flaring from diffraction of the image of Venus off the edges of the multiple baffles on the front of the instrument. (For an image of the HI enclosure on one of the STEREO spacecraft, please see:
http://secchi.nrl.navy.mil/images/inst/HI.jpg ;
the baffles are the multiple ridges at the bottom of the box, and just below the lower of the two circular optical packages near the top.)

Hi Djamil Graham,

Actually it was myself that wrote that Youtube text you quoted from Exopolitics. I have now updates the text on the Youtube video and provided additional links. I am satisfied with NASA explanation and further evidence which proof nothing happened to Venus. Also if anything did ever happen to Venus like a Comet impact, it would be visible to astronomers with telescopes in their back gardens.
