A very interesting astrological event came to my attention recently via Spirit and Destiny Magazine. It is one that has been rather under reported so far. On the 26th of January, the distant planetoid Pluto will enter the astrological house of Capricorn the sign of conservatism, leadership and at times dominance. America was born as a nation on the date 04/07/1776 under the exactly opposed sign Cancer during the end of a journey through Capricorn by Pluto.
It is then no wonder then that astrologers are interested in just what will the return to this position herald for America, and by default the global culture now that the two are intrinsically linked. Its been 230 years since the last time around.
Pluto has a great deal of ancient mystical symbolism attached to it as well as being attributed links to modern esoteric thought and indeed Satanism. Much of its described imagery sounds startlingly relevant to the current times in which we find ourselves. Pluto is the patron of big business, as well as a herald of rebirth, death and transformation. Named for the God of the ancient hell-like vision named Hades, and attributed with control over the land of the dead as well as a path toward higher realms of existence. It speaks of a need to explore these same. Pluto’s only moon is named Charon, after the ferryman whom carries souls across the river Stix on to the land of the dead.
In astrological terms, the fact that Pluto is the furthest out of the heavenly bodies of our solar system means that its changes are seen as extremely important and of wide effect. Pluto’s changing house is considered a bringer of upheavels at the level of entire populations. Although Pluto urges change, its initial effect on conservative power blocks can mean they clamp down massively and impair civil liberties on a massive scale. At the level of the general populace, it brings about a desire for a revolutionary sense of greater self-responsibility. Pluto is spoken of by some as bringing the urge for facing life’s dissatisfactions, and providing the energy to process this fully.
Those born under Pluto’s influence are likely to feel compelled to seek out the injustice they perceive to be in the world. This is in itself is positive, however the negative side of this influence is that many become crusaders blind to their own faults and therefore cause more problems than those they solve. Recent global conflicts seem to echo this ominously as we see more and more controversial revelations from events on the ground. In addition to this the recent collapse in the financial markets would seem to resonate with the ideas surrounding Pluto and its link to change in business fortunes globally. We have seen in just a few days the collapse of the financial markets as well as the largest ever act of banking fraud all to a backdrop of credit crunch and property uncertainty.
Pluto is depicted by a symbol representing spirit forged in the crucible of matter, a very interesting choice indeed. It is tied to the aspects of power within the smallest levels of reality such as energetic little atoms, hence its name being used for the culturally ominous substance Plutonium. This also makes it important to those considering more refined higher realms of existence and the idea of hidden modes of existence spiritually important to us.
This is why then that it can be seen as both a harbinger of radical and difficult changes, yet also a positive catalyst for the inner substance of humanity. The next 15 years in which Pluto visits Capricorn are projected to be of great import for America in particular of course. many Astrologers predict that nation will never be the same again. Some new form of global superpower will replace American global dominance by the end of this journey through the astrological house.
First comes the tightening of the reigns by the outgoing old guard, then the fall of an outdated mode of governance. The end of illegitimate political forces such as Neo-Conservatism and Global Elitism could be just around the corner.
The fact that 21-12-2012 falls in the midst of this section of the Pluto orbit is of course very interesting when one considers all the change symbolism attached to that date. Especially relevant is that much of the 2012 changes information comes from various American cultures of both modern and indeed by gone years. Most notably the Maya and Hopi Indians. It would seem that information suggesting a time of change in the global mode of governance is becoming universal. It would seem this long predicted time is reflected well within Pluto's astrological symbolism.
Time and events are shown by history to be largely cyclical in nature not linear. Those who do not learn from the lessons of the past are indeed doomed to repeat its mistakes. It would seem to me unwise to simply write of any of these astronomic cycles as irrelevant to us. We are lead by various relevant natural cycles, indeed they govern every aspect of us in fundamental ways. I must admit that I wonder what we will see by the time Pluto exits Capricorn in 2025. It appears that this European path of astrology meshes well with that of the Mayans, Hopi and other important cultures for this time. Many of these systems are being closely studied by some of us in the Western world at this time.
The best advise that astrologers seem to have for us entering this period appears to be, hold on to your hats, but make sure you don’t struggle, just go with the flow of being fully embedded in the process of radical global change.
As a final note for budding astronomers, keep your eyes to the sky on January 29th as the massive TU2007 asteroid passes close to the Earth.

“Every nation has a right to govern itself internally under what forms it pleases, and to change these forms at its own will; and externally to transact business with other nations through whatever organ it chooses, whether that be a King, Convention, Assembly, Committee, President, or whatever it be. The only thing essential is, the will of the nation.” —Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Pinckney, 1792. ME 9:7
